Privacy Policy for ICD-10 CM Lookup Tool

🛡️ Official Statement
📅 Last Modified: August 08, 2026

Effective Date: August 8, 2026

Last Updated: August 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the ICD-10 CM Lookup Tool (“the Extension”) handles user information. We are committed to protecting user privacy and maintaining transparency regarding data usage.

1. Information Collection and Use

The ICD-10 CM Lookup Tool is designed with a privacy-first approach. We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personally identifiable information (PII), health data, or personal browsing history.

  • No Account Required: You are not required to log in, register, or provide any personal details to use the Extension.
  • No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use third-party tracking scripts, analytics tools, or telemetric data collection within the Extension.

2. Search Query Data & API Processing

To provide accurate and up-to-date diagnosis code results, search queries entered into the Extension or selected via the right-click context menu are processed as follows:

  • NIH API Requests: Search terms entered into the search bar or selected on a webpage are transmitted directly to the official National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Table Search Service API ([https://clinicaltables.nlm.nih.gov/](https://clinicaltables.nlm.nih.gov/)) to fetch matching ICD-10-CM codes.
  • Anonymous Queries: Search terms sent to the NIH API are completely anonymous and contain no personal identifiers, user credentials, or IP logs associated with your identity.
  • Local Session Storage: When you highlight text and use the right-click context menu search, the selected text is temporarily stored in your browser’s local session memory (chrome.storage.session). This data remains strictly on your local device and is cleared when the browser session ends.

3. Chrome Extension Permissions

The Extension requests minimal browser permissions required to execute its core features:

  • sidePanel: Allows the Extension to display diagnosis code search results alongside your active browser tab without leaving the page.
  • contextMenus: Enables the right-click “Search ICD-10” option when text is highlighted on a webpage.
  • storage: Used solely to transfer selected text from the right-click menu into the side panel search field. No data is written to permanent storage or sent to external servers.
  • activeTab: Allows interaction with the active tab solely for opening the side panel interface upon user request.
  • Host Permission ([https://clinicaltables.nlm.nih.gov/](https://clinicaltables.nlm.nih.gov/)*): Required to send live search queries to the official NIH ICD-10 database endpoint.

4. Third-Party Links

The Extension contains optional direct links to external websites, including:

  • Denial Journal ([https://denialjournal.com/](https://denialjournal.com/))
  • CMS Official ICD-10 Resources ([https://www.cms.gov/](https://www.cms.gov/))

Clicking these links will open them in a new browser tab. These external sites operate under their own independent privacy policies and terms of service. We encourage users to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites they visit.

5. Data Security

Because the Extension does not collect, store, or transmit personal user data to external servers (other than sending anonymous search terms directly to the NIH API), your browsing activity and personal data remain completely private and secure within your browser environment.

6. Compliance with Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

The ICD-10 CM Lookup Tool strictly adheres to the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Privacy Policies and Single-Purpose Requirement:

  • We do not sell user data to third parties.
  • We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the Extension’s core single-purpose function.
  • We do not use user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect updates to the Extension or legal requirements. Any modifications will be posted to this page with an updated “Last Updated” date.
